Joe Dracobly

"My name is Joe Dracobly, and I am a Masters student in the Department of Behavior Analysis. I was part of Dr. Murrell’s lab during the Spring and Summer 2007 semesters and I helped with the Parenting Study (I am not sure what the exact title is) . Currently, I am a Caseload Supervisor for the Behavior Analysis Resource Center at the Denton State School. I just finished assisting with research (in the Behavior Analysis Resource Center Clinic at the Denton State School) comparing the effects of mixed schedules and multiple schedules on the treatment of physical aggression and self-injury maintained by access to food."

Lea Fisher

"After graduating in December of 2006, I have been working for Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas in the Psychiatry Department and pursuing a masters in counseling at the University of North Texas. At least once a day, I think about our lab and what a rich educational experience it was for me.

One of the things that I most appreciate here in the “real world” is the concept of values from an ACT perspective. When I start to tell myself that I have too many responsibilities, too much stress and, as I am sure none of you can relate, too much self imposed pressure, I think back to what we practiced in our lab. I ask myself if what I am working toward is worth it and gratefully, my answer is… yes it is!

It is so rare and precious to be able live consistently with your values.

Thanks Amy."

Laura Howe-Martin

"I joined Dr. Murrell's research team in 2006, after working as her departmental research assistant and becoming hooked into the wonderful way that she interacted with her students. Dr. Murrell willingly became the co-chair for my dissertation project on adolescent self-mutilation as a form of experiential avoidance, and has been a mentor ever since. I was able to meld my psychodynamic and feminist theory background with the contextual features of this lab and with my current interests in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Working within Dr. Murrell’s lab has also allowed me to participate in several research projects, learn about the grant-writing process, and present at several conferences. Currently, I am on internship at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri, working with inpatients who struggle with severe mental disorders and Axis II diagnoses. My dissertation is being defended in November 2007, and I look forward to graduating in August 2008, five years after beginning the Clinical program at UNT. Research projects:
