Associate Fellow, Texas Center for Digital Knowledge and Project Manager, ZLOT Project: The Z Texas Implementation Component of the
Library of Texas, University of North Texas,
Denton, TX, 2001- Present.
The ZLOT Project is supported by a grant from the Texas State Library and
Archives Commission (TSLAC) with funds from the Texas Telecommunications
Infrastructure Fund (TIF) Board. The Project is charged with the specification
and design of the Resource Discovery Service for the virtual Library of Texas
(LOT), a program of the TSLAC.
- Research responsibility for project deliverables:
- Functional Requirements of the LOT Resource Discovery Service
- Technology Assessment of Texas' Academic and Public Libraries
- Architectural Design for the LOT Resource Discovery Service
- Establishment and supervision of management processes. Creation of reports,
analyses, procedures, and methods for several aspects of the project,
including financial tracking, project deliverables, research, project website,
and system administration.
- Creation and management of the project team, consisting primarily of
graduate students, to ensure people work together well and are motivated to meet the project's
established objectives and deliverables.
- Identification, management, and mitigation of project risk.
- Ensuring that products and deliverables are of acceptable quality.
- Development and maintenance of the overall project plan that serves as the blueprint for all activities necessary for the successful completion of each
project deliverable. The project plan identifies tasks, milestones, costs, responsible
parties,
and estimates of the time necessary to complete each deliverable.
- Management and tracking of project plan tasks and activities to ensure work is assigned and completed on time and within
budget.
Consultant, School of
Merchandising and Hospitality Management, University of North Texas, Denton,
TX, 1997- 2001.
- Designed and developed a prototype for a CDROM-based course in Club and Resort
Management utilizing HTML and JavaScript. Identified new professional and
academic markets to expand current student base.
- Converted instructor-led course in Club and Resort
Management to a distributed education course utilizing WebCT,
a tool for web-based course development. Designed and
developed the
22-lesson course, adapted existing content, created interactive content,
integrated video and audio components, and developed individual and group
assignments.
- Supervised and instructed faculty and teaching assistants in the creation of WebCT-based courses, Microsoft FrontPage, HTML,
Macromedia Authorware, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Consultant, School of Library and Information Science, University of North Texas, Denton, TX, 2000.
Produced three deliverables in support of a Bachelor of Science in Information Science
degree at the UNT Systems Center in Dallas, Texas.
- A Learner Task Analysis for eight courses including the following sections:
problem statement, course goals, course
description, performance objectives, and classification of learning types.
- A summary report of the learning environment,
including the following factors: learners, teachers, instructional equipment, instructional facilities, community,
and organization.
- A brief needs analysis defining "information
professional" as it applies to this degree, describing the skill set
and competencies employers require of such employees, and evaluating the
proposed courses vis-à-vis these requirements.
Adjunct Faculty, School
of Merchandising and Hospitality Management, University of North Texas, Denton,
TX, 1997.
- Taught Advanced Field Experience in Hospitality, a
capstone course for undergraduate hospitality majors involving internships
in hospitality enterprises. Developed lessons, including presentations,
applied exercises and role-plays regarding behavioral objectives, conflict
management, employee selection, employee evaluation, and career
management.
- Taught web-site design, HTML, Internet protocols (ftp,
Telnet), Windows (3.1, 95), Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Developed teaching aids, identified online resources, and tutored faculty
in support of the School's goal to increase the integration of technology
in the overall curricula and to develop distributed education courses and
programs.
- Assisted faculty-development of web sites for several courses
including Food Sanitation, Principles of Nutrition, Principles of Travel
and Tourism, Principles of Food Preparation, and Quantity Food Production
and Management.
- Supervised the design and creation of the School's web
site. Interviewed stakeholders within the School, determined content
areas, and specified design guidelines.
Teaching Assistant,

- Designed and developed the
Hospitality Internship course web site. Adapted existing course materials for
the web, developed assignments and assignment evaluation guides. Converted
paper-intensive student time and internship experience reports to
efficient, convenient online forms. Conducted
site-visits to internship locations in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area.
- Designed and developed the Club and Resort Management
course web site. Adapted existing course materials for the web,
including lesson notes and reference articles. Created interactive
assignments, integrated ongoing student feedback mechanism designed to
answer students' questions and improve the quality of the course web site.

- Taught Assertive Training, which included didactic
presentations but emphasized situational role plays in which students
practiced skills using reenactments of actual problematic situations.
Teaching Assistant,

- Developed and taught an undergraduate
course entitled the Psychology of Women in the Psychology Department. Developed the course proposal,
including the syllabus, assignments, and resources, which was submitted
for approval to the curriculum committee. Taught lessons, evaluated
assignments, and assigned course grades.
RESEARCH
ZLOT Project: The Z Texas Implementation Component of the Library of Texas,
Texas Center for Digital Knowledge, University of North Texas, Denton, TX, 2001- Present.
- Designed the overall functional and technical architecture for the virtual
Library of Texas (LOT). Identified the detailed components and protocols for
the LOT Resource Discovery Service.
- Coordinated and participated in the overall creation, development, design,
and analysis of an online questionnaire to identify the technology
capabilities of Texas libraries for participation in the Library of Texas and to
identify possible barriers to their participation.
- Developed the protocol for and facilitated focus groups with academic and
public librarians in Texas. The focus groups elicited stakeholders' needs and
expectations vis-à-vis the Library of Texas.
- Conducted qualitative analyses
of focus group summaries to identify a set of functional requirements for
the virtual catalog and search/retrieval interface components of the Library
of Texas.

meet the course selection needs of higher education students.

survey results to determine criteria of importance to students and
underlying differences between students based on demographic, education,
and experience factors.

Travelers: A Study of Sexism among U.S. Hospitality Students.
- Conducted a focus group of university students
and qualitatively analyzed the content to determine possible gender
stereotypes of business travelers.
- Developed a survey questionnaire to measure
hospitality students' gender-based service decisions and sexism. Conducted
a national study of hospitality students and quantitatively analyzed the
results.

- Conducted strategic analyses of the network
technology strategies of key players in the data communications industry.
Identified opportunities for new and emerging data products and services
for both wireless and wire-line communications networks.
- Served as project leader for the trial of a
high-speed public packet data network service (SMDS). Determined equipment
configurations, tested applications, and made recommendations for
deployment.

- Designed and managed departmental computing
system and wide area network for the corporation's Advanced Education

- Consulted with course development and delivery
organizations regarding requirements in support of distributed and
