I live in Denton, Texas with my wife Roxana and our sons, Drake and Diego. I completed my Ph.D. with a major in Microbiology at the University of North Texas in 1998, and have worked as an instructor at several Dallas-area colleges since graduating..
As to how I got to this point in my life, I've lived my entire life in the Great State of Texas (excluding a little sojourn in Heidelberg, Germany for my birth). My childhood was spent in the city of Pampa, Texas, a town of about 20,000 people in the Texas Panhandle. After graduating from dear old Pampa High School in 1983, I went off to college at the University of North Texas (then known as North Texas State University) in Denton, Texas, which is just north of Dallas/Ft. Worth.
I've been at UNT in one capacity or another since then. As an undergraduate, I was active in student activities, which included stints as a Freshman Orientation Peer Counselor, vice-president and president of both the Residence Hall Association and the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, Eastern Regional Director of the Texas Residence Hall Association, and chair of student homecoming events (Whew! Of course I didn't do ALL of them at the same time--uh, well, at second glance I DID do those all mostly at the same time!). In a rare event these days, I actually completed my bachelor's degree in a straight four years. I received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English in May, 1987.
After graduating, I worked in the UNT Office of Admissions for four years prior to returning to full-time study. This time around, I majored in Biology, Microbial Genetics, to be exact. I earned a Master of Science in August, 1994 and my doctorate in May, 1998.
