There is a place, a time, a state of being that lies beyond what you can see and feel. It dwells in the ether of your dreams, or rather...your nightmares. A land where ancient mysteries and ancient evils dwell side by side, and often are one and the same. Sometimes, the ancient guardians of this land, a primal force known only as the Mists, reach out to touch the lives of dwellers in the light. Their lives are never the same again. Some of these souls die in madness and despair, victims of the land. Losers in an eternal game.
Sometimes these brave souls are able to be candles in the shroud of night, their light holding back the darkness.
....and once in a while, once in a generation perhaps, these candles ignite a bonfire and the evil knows it does not reign without challenge.
Ravenloft, the game setting for Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition, give you a chance to play those candles. Will your light be snuffed out as if it never was? Or will you ignite the bonfire?

Ravenloft is without a doubt, my favorite game setting for the AD&D game. Gothic horror, fantasy, and the stuggle of good against overwhelming evil. More importantly, the struggle of a few adventurers against the onslaught of fear, horror, madness and paranoia. Will they triumph and champion goodness or will they fall to darkness?
