| Purpose of site:
The purpose of this site is to enable PreK-12 art educators to
competently, confidently, and equitably facilitate learning for
students with disabilities. To this end, each resource included
on this site has been carefully examined and chosen.
How is the site organized?
This site is organized according to two main themes: Disability
and Art Education/Disability. Pages that address Disability provide
information on various disabilities, links to national disability/education
organizations, and information about disability awareness.
The Art Education/Disability pages provides links to art education
and disability organizations, offers suggestions for supporting
students with disabilities in the art classroom, and provides links
to the work of artists with disabilities.
How should I use this site?
This site can be used for a variety of purposes, such as:
• Getting in depth information on particular disabilities
• Collaborating with other art and special educators through
discussion forums that some of the disability education web sites
provide
• Exploring attitudes and increasing understanding of disability
(Disability awareness)
• Providing students with online interactive spaces for exploring
and expressing their ideas about disability
• Collaborating with art and disability organizations to recognize
the work of students with disabilities in your classroom
• Finding classroom resources such as books and curricula
that address disability
• Finding out more information about how to incorporate a
students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals into your
art curriculum
• Locating providers of adaptive art equipment
• Locating and incorporating the works of artists with disabilities
into your art curriculum
