Name of Site: VSA arts Online Gallery of Artists with Disabilities
Purpose of Site: This is a very nice collection of exhibits by teens and adults with disabilities. Images can be downloaded for educational purposes as long as the artist and VSA arts is credited. The really nice thing about this page is that each art work is accompanied by a narrative of the artist, explaining how disability and art coalesce in his/her life.
Recommended Sections: “Art, Disability, and Expression” is a great place to start for anyone wanting to understand the history of disability and art. “Road Trip: A Journey of Discovery,” “Expressing Freedom” and “Children Beyond Borders” are all exhibits of children and teens with disabilities. “VSA arts Permanent Collection” is a rich resource of global scope, featuring artists with disabilities from all over the world. “Through the Looking Glass” and “Adrift in the Sea of Tranquility” are also very sophisticated resources. “Athletes of the Spirit” is a resource ripe with possibilities for collaboration among students of different abilities.
