Waffle Lady

(T. Davis)

Inspired by an actual encounter, late one night, following Oktoberfest.  We had got rained out – and went to the Waffle House to drown our sorrows in cheap syrup.  Little did I know that I would be meeting my first true love that night.  An elderly woman who had brought her stack of bills, a jewel button calculator, and her glasses from 1973 to do a little “busyness”.  As my friends chatted conveniently about the beautiful women at university…she was busy making eyes at me.

Well, I met her at the waffle house

One cold rainy night.

We fell in love over scrambled eggs

And a side order of Miller Lite.

But who would have guessed she turn my world upside down

Then leave me alone with a smile

But I guess for what it was worth

It was worth it all the while

Because I was yours and you were my…

Waffle Lady

You’re my waffle lady

You had me at “How do you like your hashbrowns?”

Baby I was star struck

I knew all I needed was 3.99

And a little bit of luck

I guess I’m happy about as happy

As a good old boy could be

All I know is my major should have been

Gerontology.

Because I was yours and you were my…

Waffle lady

You’re my waffle lady

I don’t care if your glasses are big

And your pants are a way too tight

All I know is I’m really glad

To have some bacon with you tonight

And as you walked back to the jukebox

To play an old country song

I thought if lovin’ this old gal ain’t right

Then baby I want to be wrong.

Because I am yours and you are my

Waffle lady…
